Sevilla welcomes Athletic Bilbao to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in round 34 of the Spanish LaLiga.
Sevilla is in fantastic shape and they have won 5 games, while they have won 7 of their last 9 games and have not lost any of their last 9 games. Thanks to this brilliant series, Seville is now 4th with 70 points and one game less than the top 3 teams in the league. With a win here, Seville will stay in the title race. Sevilla are the weakest attacking side of any of the top 6 teams in the league, but their defense has been one of the best with only 26 goals conceded so far. In their last home game against Granada, Sevilla were a much better side with 64% possession, 4 shots on goal, 5 corners, 1 big chance and a decent 82% of correct passes. With 1 goal in each half and 1 goal conceded in the second half, Sevilla rightly won this game 2-1. En-Nesyri has been in very good shape this season, having scored 17 goals so far, while Ocampos has scored 5 goals. There are currently no injuries in Seville. I was hoping that Sevilla would be in the top 4 this season, but I didn’t expect them to be in the title race until the end. Regardless of whether they finish 4th or higher, Sevilla have done a fantastic job this season.
Bilbao have only lost 1 in the last 6 games, but only 1 win in those 6 games, and they don’t look good. Bilbao played against Valladolid in their last game and had 50% possession, 7 shots on goal, 5 corners, 3 big chances and 79% of correct passes. After Bilbao beat Atletico Madrid last weekend, I expected so much more from them in this game, but it didn’t happen. Bilbao led twice in that game but Valladolid kept coming back and that game ended in a 2-2 draw. This season has been a big disappointment for Bilbao as they have lost two Copa del Rey finals and are a long way from the Europa League with 42 points in tenth place. Berenguer is Bilbao’s leading scorer with 8 goals while Williams added 7 assists. Zarraga, Berchiche, Nolaskoain, Muniain and Capa are all injured for Bilbao and will most likely miss this game. Bilbao are a solid team, they can play great football but they have always been and always will be an average team in LaLiga.
Sevilla have won 5 games and they are playing well on both ends. Bilbao have only won two games on the road this season and Sevilla haven’t lost to Bilbao in their last three games. Bilbao doesn’t create many chances and that’s why I’ll be working with Seville at home to stay in the title race.
