CM – Shampoos and Conditioners Recalled by P&G due to Carcinogenic Concerns

High-caliber pantene and herbal essences are among the products recalled by Procter & Gamble due to cancer-causing chemical concerns.

Consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble has recalled over two dozen aerosol spray hair products, including dry shampoos and dry conditioners.

The company issued the voluntary recall on December 17th after raising concerns that some of the items Could contain benzene, a potentially carcinogenic chemical.

The company announced the move for its American-sold brands Pantene, Aussie, Herbal Essences and Waterless. The recall came after a similar action last month when P&G recalled certain Old Spice and Secret antiperspirants due to the discovery of benzene.

For a list of recently recalled products, click here. P&G stated that following recent reports showing traces of benzene in some aerosol spray products, the company has initiated a review of all of its aerosol products.

Although the company stated that none of its products contained benzene , a review showed that unexpected amounts of benzene came from the propellant the product was spraying from the can.

The Cincinnati-based company announced it had benzene in aerosol dry shampoo spray products and aerosol dry conditioners -Spray products discovered. It states: “Nothing is more important to us than the safety of the consumers who use our products and the quality of the products we ship.”

Procter & Gamble mentioned that no other products from Pantene, Aussie, Herbal Essences , Hair Food and Waterless are part of the recall and these other products can still be used. This includes aerosol dry shampoo spray products with production code areas other than those listed.

« The vast majority of our products are not part of this recall, including mousses, hairsprays, liquid shampoos, liquid conditioners, styling products, treatments, and unaffected aerosol dry shampoos -Sprays, « stated P&G.

Procter & Gamble added that the recalled products were sold in the United States through retail stores and online. Retailers have been urged to take recalled products off their shelves. The brands are offering a refund to consumers who have purchased products affected by the recall.
