SpaceX has postponed its next astronaut flight for NASA until Wednesday due to harsh winds and waves hundreds of kilometers away.

Four astronauts were scheduled to start a six-month mission to the International Space Station early Sunday morning. But while the forecast at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center was near perfect, a major storm to the northeast caused the seas to continue to stir up the coast. The security breach caused the managers to postpone the start on Saturday.

For the start of the crew, SpaceX needs good weather along the east coast and across the North Atlantic to Ireland in case something goes wrong and the capsule has to carry out an emergency injection. </ Quieter conditions are expected for Wednesday. Until then, one German and three US astronauts will stay with Kennedy.

This will be SpaceX’s fourth astronaut flight for NASA in 1 1/2 years and the company’s fifth passenger flight overall. Last month, SpaceX launched its first private flight, sending a billionaire and his three guests into orbit.
