Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Wednesday that Spain will donate 7.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Latin America and the Caribbean by 2021.

Sánchez announced the effort on Jan. held the annual Ibero-American Summit in Andorra and repeated the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday evening. The engagement supports Global Citizen’s VAX LIVE campaign, which aims to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

« The Spanish government is using a lot of vaccines against Latin America and the Caribbean Enable COVID-19, which corresponds to at least 5% to 10% of the total vaccines our country will receive in the course of 2021, « said Sánchez in a statement.

The VAX LIVE campaign aims to end the COVID-19 pandemic, which will only be possible if all countries ensure that everyone, everywhere, has fair access to vaccines. Global Citizen urges the world’s richest countries to contribute to the campaign by fully funding the COVID-19 Tools Access Accelerator (ACT) and its COVAX vaccine column. donate excess vaccines; Support vaccine manufacturing efforts to bring vaccines to the poor.

Global Citizen also urges the private sector and philanthropists to donate enough « dollars for cans » to help more than 27 million healthcare workers, who are working on the front lines against the pandemic in the world’s poorest countries.

VAX LIVE: The world reunification concert will take place next month at the new SoFi stadium in Los Angeles, California. The event will be broadcast worldwide on May 8th and hosted by Selena Gomez. Bringing together world leaders (including Sánchez), artists and more, it features appearances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J. Balvin, HER and others to support the world in supporting Vaccine Equality, Trust in COVID-19 Vaccines and encourage people to take their shots when they can.
