A video circulating on the Internet appeared to show a potential funnel cloud, although reports of a tornado landing were unconfirmed at the time of publication.
On Facebook, numerous posts showed burning fires, smashed electricity pylons, and collapsed houses and major damage in general.
Several thousand in and around Port Austin were also without power as a result, according to Detroit Edison.
