A man sustained a serious injury after a shark took a « significant bite » from his arm while surfing on the central north coast of NSW.
The man, believed to be around 20 years old, was surfing on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Crescent Head Beach when he was attacked.
He was helped out of the water, treated by paramedics, and later flown to John Hunter Hospital in serious but stable condition.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Andrew Beverley said those bystanders who helped the man out of the water and provided “vital first aid” should be commended.
« It was a significant bite and the man was seriously injured as a result Poor, « said Beverley.
» It may be cold right now, but it’s important to always be aware of your surroundings in the water, even in winter. «
