0

At least three rockets landed in the Afghan capital on Tuesday ahead of a speech by President Ashraf Ghani to mark the beginning of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, said the Interior Ministry.

The rockets, which were released around 8:00 a.m. (0330 GMT) could be heard in the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses the presidential palace and several embassies, including the US mission.

« Today the enemies of Afghanistan have rocket attacks in different parts of the city Kabul launched, « said Interior Ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanikzai.

» All of the rockets hit three different parts. According to our initial information, we have no injuries. Our team is investigating. «

Minutes after the attack, Ghani began a speech to the nation in the presence of some of its top officials.

The palace has been hit by rockets several times in the past, most recently in December.

The attack coincides with an extensive Talib an offensive across the country as foreign forces finalize a troop withdrawal set to be completed by August 31st.
