SYDNEY: The number nine in the world, Iga Swiatek, canceled the Sydney Tennis Classic next week due to a rib injury, said the 20-year-old on Sunday.
Poland’s Swiatek, the 2020 French Open title won, lost to top placed Ash Barty 6: 2, 6: 4 in the Adelaide International semifinals on Saturday.
Swiatek was supposed to face US Open winner Emma Raducanu in the opening round of the WTA 500 event in Sydney who has a full field of top names and is led by Australian Barty.
« After the intense preseason and tournament last week in Adelaide, I feel like my body needs more time to to recover, « said Swiatek in a statement on Twitter.
