In thunderstorms that lashed NSW, hailstones larger than two inches fell and a tornado warning was even issued.
The storms were most violent over Sydney and the Lower Hunter, but between Sydney and Cowra in the central west of the state, hail was reported.
Conditions over west Sydney were particularly grave as meteorologists saw all the ingredients for a « very, very dangerous supercell, » said Gabrielle Woodhouse of the Bureau of Meteorology. </ The Woodville Golf Course in Canterbury fell about 33mm of rain in about a quarter of an hour.
