A teenager was injured today after falling from an elevator shaft at a power plant in the Lake Macquarie area.
Just before 2 p.m. (Sunday June 20, 2021), rescue workers were taken to a disused power plant on Summerhill Drive, Wangi Wangi, called after a teenage boy was reportedly plunged into an elevator shaft.
A search and rescue operation began to locate the teenage boy at the Lake Macquarie Police District, Fire and Rescue NSW , NSW Ambulance Specialist Operations Team and Special Casualty Access Team were involved.
By 2:30 p.m., the boy was in the elevator shaft and a vertical rescue was being carried out by NSW Fire and Rescue.
He was being treated on site before being rushed to John Hunter Hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
