Teven Jenkins will have the chance to pay for his first appearance last week on Left Tackle after Jason Peters was out for Monday night’s game with the Minnesota Vikings.
Peters is one of three players excluded from the game due to injuries, although COVID-19 makes it unlikely that more will play and will not be on the injury report.
As a result, trainer Matt Nagy said Jenkins will start. The Bears hope that the result for him in this game could be different than when he fought Peters against Green Bay.
Officials marked Jenkins for four sentences and he admitted two sacks against the Packers. Jenkins hadn’t really practiced contact all year, missing out on training camp and preseason with back problems and then back surgery. He hadn’t had a single full contact training session before the Green Bay game.
Cornerback Xavier Crawford is out with a concussion, DeAndre Houston-Carson is out with a forearm fracture.
Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and nose tackle Khyiris Tonga (shoulder / illness) are questionable. Neither of them could train this week.
The only players who missed Saturday’s training beyond those on the COVID-19 list were Crawford, Goodwin, Houston-Carson, Peters and Tonga.
Defensive end Akiem Hicks is rated as questionable despite recovering enough from his ankle injury on Saturday to have a full workout and reportedly could have done all of the workout Thursday and Friday if they hadn’t taken turns have had.
Perhaps the better news for the Bears on Saturday was that they got their first full workout of the week.
« We would have been practicing full throttle if we (earlier) had more guys, but we just couldn’t take that risk with limited guys, » said Nagy. « It’s a trickle-down effect. We had to make sure we weren’t burdening the players who were playing. »
« I think it’s good news that we’re getting a lot of people back who weren’t there a few days ago to come back and give us numbers, and today we had a good Red Zone day in and full throttle which is good for the boys. «
In addition to up to 13 missing workouts on the COVID-19 list this week, the Bears had eight players sick at a time. The only one still sick is Tonga, who is also injured.
The only players on the Vikings’ injury report are both questionable. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland is in doubt after Saturday’s apologized absence for personal reasons. Wide receiver Adam Thielen missed every workout this week due to a high ankle sprain.
