Texas Governor Greg Abbott, whose controversial plan to reopen early coronavirus was dubbed « Neanderthal thinking » by President Biden, said the state had no daily COVID-19 deaths on Sunday. </ "Today Texas reported: 0 Covid-related deaths – the only time since the data was collected in March 2020," the Republican governor said on Twitter.
He added that the state also had the « lowest 7-day Covid positivity rate ever » and « the fewest Covid cases in over 13 months ».
During the Lone Star State on this one Day no deaths were recorded, officials in densely populated Dallas County stopped reporting new coronavirus data on Sundays – and the CDC tracker shows a total of 305 coronavirus deaths occurred in Texas last week.
Abbott’s claim came after he lifted his statewide mask mandate on March 2nd – declaring, « It’s time to reopen Texas 100 percent, » which sparked a fiery back and forth between him and Biden.

He added, « The Biden government exposed Texans to COVID. This is a Neanderthal-type approach to dealing with the COVID situation. On Monday, Texas reported 42 new COVID-19 deaths and a 7-day positivity rate of less than 5 percent, according to the CDC. In contrast, New York reported 11 new deaths and a 7-day positivity rate of less than 5 percent.
A total of 650 more coronavirus cases were reported in Texas on Sunday, including 595 new cases, according to Dallasnews.com. According to information from the district’s health authorities, no new coronavirus data will be reported on Sundays.
