The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers meet in MLB action from Globe Life Field on Thursday.

This is the first episode of a four-game set between these teams. The Red Sox play two games against the Mets. Boston won on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the Sox celebrated a one-off victory. The Rangers played three against the Angels. After a breakup at the first pair, Texas fell in a tough one-run loss on Wednesday. Boston scored a tough 2-1 win over the Mets on Tuesday, thanks to a good start from Garrett Richards at 7, 0 innings, 10 Ks and one earned. Boston only had four goals on Wednesday but it was enough for a 1-0 win. Starter Nick Pivetta went 5.0 innings with three walks and seven Ks.

For the pitcher role starting on Thursday, the Red Sox turn to Martin Perez. In his four appearances so far this year, Perez has 17.1 innings with 20 hits, 11 runs earned, a allowed homer, nine walks, 15 strikeouts, and an ERA of 5.71.

They fell on the Rangers side on Monday with 9: 4, but recovered on Tuesday with a 6: 1 win. In the rubber match on Wednesday, Texas gave up four runs in the first inning and could not catch up with a 4-3 defeat. Starter Dane Dunning scored 5.0 innings with four earned and six strikeouts.

For the pitcher role starting Thursday, the Rangers are going with Kyle Gibson. In his five outings and 27.1 innings that year, Gibson has scored 24 hits, eight runs (seven earned), eight walks, 23 strikeouts, and a 2:30 ERA.

The Sox are 6-1 in their last seven in their first game one series and 15-6 in their last 21 total. Boston are 69-30 in their last 99 street games against a team with one loss and the over is 6-1 in their last seven against AL West.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are 6 in their last seven games: 1 against a starter for left-handers and in their last 58 home games with 39:19 against a starter for left-handers. Texas is 15-37 in their last 52 in game one of a series and 1-7 in their last eight Thursday games.

PICK: I’ll be staying with Texas here. Gibson started the season on an ugly foray but has bounced back well over its past four years. In this stretch, Gibson only gave up two well-deserved runs and four walks and collected 22 strikeouts in the process. Perez is 1-0 with 4.91 ERA against Rangers in two starts of his career and should hold his own here. That said, I like it when Gibson puts Texas in a good position to score a win.
