A 97-year-old Holocaust survivor was overwhelmed by anti-Semitic hatred on social media during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including posts praising Hitler, her family said.

Lily Ebert, a native of Bonyhád , Hungary, who was deported to the Nazi death camp in Auschwitz in 1944, has a TikTok account to answer questions about the Holocaust.

« We’re not going to let this stop us from shedding light on the horrors of the past and what hatred can lead to, » tweeted Dov Forman on May 16.

Some of the disgusting responses according to a screenshot contained: « Can you ask her whether Israel existed when she left Germany? » and « Ask her if she thinks the treatment of Palestinians reminds her of the treatment she received in the camp. »

Others cited the recent tensions between Israel and the militant Hamas rulers in the Gaza Strip:  » Now look what Jews are in Palestine. «

According to the campaign against anti-Semitism, none of Ebert’s TikTok messages were political or mentioned Israel.

The Anti-Defamation League said the hateful attacks on the Non-agents were part of a surge that spanned more than 17,000 tweets of variations of “Hitler was right” between May 7 and 14.

« As the violence between Israel and Hamas continues to escalate, we are witnessing here at home a dangerous and dramatic rise in anti-Jewish hatred, « said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of ADL, on Thursday.

ADL found incidents of harassment, vandalism and violence from London to Los Angeles, Florida and France. Since the conflict broke out in Israel, 193 reports have been received of possible anti-Semitic incidents, up from 131 in the previous week.

Ebert, who now lives in London and survived COVID-19 after being diagnosed in January, is not abandoning her goal her great-grandson said. « Hate creates hatred and we will not let this heinous anti-Semitic abuse deter us from educating the younger generations about the horrors of the Holocaust, » Forman tweeted Tuesday. « Thank you for all your support over the past few days. »

Ebert was freed from Auschwitz after he had been moved to an ammunition factory in Leipzig in 1946, according to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum.

At least 248 Palestinians were killed in the 11-day Israel-Hamas conflict that ended in a ceasefire on Friday. Twelve people in Israel also died during the clashes.
