According to Jonny Bairstow, England’s most recent surrender to Ashes was the product of poor shot selection and the loss of an important throw.
Joe Root’s team made four changes to their loss to Australia in Adelaide, including the inclusion of Bairstow and Zak Crawley into an ailing batting team, but they were thrown for 185 on the first day of the third Test in Melbourne, leaving them swaying on the verge of a series defeat at the earliest opportunity after losing the first two Tests.
Only an unlikely turn with the bat in their second inning can save England’s fortune and Bairstow has pleaded with his teammates to get « stronger and tougher » on goal.
