CM – The best beauty looks at the Met Gala 2021


Celebrities such as Rihanna, Naomi Osaka, Lupita Nyong’o and others chose bold beauty looks for the event.

While a lot of attention was paid to the looks of celebrities on the red carpet at the Met Gala 2021, many stars made just as much impression with their hair and makeup.

Naomi Osaka, Billie Eilish, Lupita Nyong’o and more used Beauty to tackle the annual theme, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which referred to different decades, old Hollywood glamor and black culture.

Met Gala co-chair Billie Eilish’s old Hollywood glamor Oscar de la Renta look was enhanced by her hair and makeup, which gave a nod to starlets like Marilyn Monroe. Eilish partnered with Charlotte Tilbury for Her Beauty to create a smoky eye, bare lip, and accentuated cheekbones that « exude Hollywood’s ultimate glass-like glow » according to the brand.

Eilish’s recently bleached blonde hair turned voluminous Styled bob that alluded to Monroe’s signature hairstyle.

Rihanna, one of the most anticipated attendees at the Met Gala, complemented her Balenciaga couture outfit with a sultry makeup look created with her brand, Fenty Beauty. Rihanna worked with Fenty Beauty global makeup artist Hector Espinal to create a pink, smoky eye accented with long, spidery lashes and a deep cherry-colored lip.

Co-chair and tennis champion Naomi Osakas Met Gala look was a tribute to their Japanese and Haitian heritage. She worked with makeup artist Jessica Smalls to promote the reference with a geisha-inspired beauty look that consisted of red eyeshadow that extended to her cheeks and a matching lip.

She also worked with collaborated with hairdresser Marty Harper for a sculptural hairstyle that paid homage to their legacy. Harper explained, “The look is all about cross-fertilized conversations about culture, fashion and homage that are aware of youth, imagination and a new American – a new us.

Lupita Nyongo ’emphasized the American West theme of her Versace dress with her beauty look. The beauty look by Amandla Stenberg focused on the hair, which was also created by François. For their hairstyle, Stenberg and François decided to use the Durag as a tribute to black culture.
