A controversial bold type romance has come to an end. During the fifth and final season premiere on Wednesday, Kat repeatedly ignored Eve’s texts after meeting with the Republican Scarlet Board member. When the two finally faced each other, Kat admitted that as a biracial queer liberal she didn’t like following her Tryst.
« It’s not just that we see the world differently. It’s the things, on that you think the things you work on, those things hurt people like me, « Kat explained, adding that she wants to be proud of who she sleeps with.
Last July, star targeted Aisha Dee dismissed her character Kat’s flirtation with Eva and wrote on Instagram that « the decision to get Kat into a relationship with a privileged conservative woman was confusing and atypical ».
« Despite my personal feelings about the choice I tried my best to tell the story with honesty, even though the Kat I know and love would never make those decisions, « Dee continued. » It was heartbreaking to see Kat’s story turn into a redemption story for someone another transformed, ever man who is complicit in the oppression of so many. Someone whose policies are actively harming their communities. «
After Dee’s criticism, » we had a lot of conversations, « said showrunner Wendy Straker Hauser in a recent interview with TVLine. “We always really try to have an open dialogue, and so many of our storylines are collaborative.”
This week’s premiere was about “what feels right and good and also right through the characters of Eva and the character of Kat and then individually by the person who Aisha is, « says Hauser. « We just got to a good place where we’re authentic and where we’re not making certain characters mean, but also having interesting conversations and finding a solution to this story that feels real and true to both Aisha and Kat’s character. »
Hauser also notes that Kat and Eve’s relationship was « always planned » – but the end of pandemic production and the shortened final run of the six-episode series hastened the couple’s deaths.
“This was always part of what we thought Kat’s bow was, just being able to fall in love with someone, having an open dialogue, possibly learning from and growing from one another, and maybe even Eva’s spirit on certain levels Certain possibilities are opened and things are changed, « shares Hauser, » and Kat could see other things, and they could make the world a better place, something like the door So what we all have, I think, at some level is that we can go down the aisle and we can start fixing and working together. But we didn’t have the space to end this story, so given the short season we had this year, we changed things a bit and ended up getting to the same place, but much faster. «
