« A lot of black and mixed people like me came to America because the opportunities just weren’t there for us, » says F9: The Fast Saga actress Nathalie Emmanuel.
Actress Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei in Game of Thrones and Ramsey in the Fast and Furious franchise, recently spoke about the lack of opportunities for black and multiracial performers in the United Kingdom (UK).
Emmanuel revealed that she might not be where she is today if she hadn’t left the UK for work and better prospects.
When asked in a recent interview with Essence about the welcome invasion of English talent into Hollywood, responded Emmanuel said it was harder to find roles or to get home.
“The UK industry hasn’t always hugged us, and I think as many black and mixed people as I have come to America because of the opportunities just weren’t there for us. And sadly, so much black talent has happened. « Has been lost to the States, » she said.
Emmanuel admits that Hollywood has its own diversity issues and believes America’s film industry is bigger and there are more opportunities for people of different backgrounds around the world.
Emmanuel, who also recognized her role in Maze Runner films, added that there have been moments and the need for change in the UK because » it just fell on dead ears « .
As the conversation continued, the Holly Slept Over actor looked back on her career and is really proud of herself. She feels blessed to be part of people who took a risk on their acting journey.
Emmanuel also shared that she has seen the benefit of real-time representation where fans have come to her that her daughter used to hate each other, but now they feel special because people like (Emmanuel) stand up for themselves.
On the career front, Emmanuel is part of the highly anticipated action film F9: The Fast Saga, which hits today June 25th , is published.
