Britain’s Prince Charles and his most trusted associate, Michael Fawcett, were reported to the police by the Republic advocacy group on charges of cash payments.
Graham Smith, executive director of the organization campaigning for a elected head of state, said: « If these matters are not properly investigated, public trust in the police, royals and the honor system will be damaged. »
Mr Smith said he had contacted the Metropolitan Police and contacted both Charles and Mr. Fawcett charged on suspicion of violating the Honors (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925.
Former royal valet Fawcett is accused of promising to secure knighthood and British citizenship for a Saudi billionaire donor.
Mr Smith said, “Time and again the royals blame their employees or employees for their own mistakes.
“It’s hard to believe that Charles was unaware of these agreements or promises. It’s time the royals were personally challenged for their behavior. ”
Former Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker has also written to the Met asking the Troop Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick to open a criminal investigation.
Mr. Baker said, « There appears to be prima facie evidence that a crime under the Honors Act of 1925 was committed and needs to be investigated. »
He asked Charles to make a statement and said, » The prince should take responsibility for this and take responsibility for it.
« The story of him and Michael Fawcett is that when things get pear-shaped, Charles fades into the background pretending he doesn’t know the guy, and Michael falls on his sword brought back when no one is looking . “
