The center has promised exemplary measures against Rajasthan, in which, according to the oxygen supplier INOX, four of their tankers were confiscated. « There will be ramifications for the seizure of tankers through Rajasthan. Action will be taken. « Whatever government is stopping you, let us know. We will initiate criminal proceedings. At a meeting with the prime ministers of the eleven worst-hit states by Covid last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged states to ensure that tankers transport oxygen to other states transport, not be stopped or delayed.

Today INOX told the court: « Our four tankers with Haryana license plates were confiscated from Rajasthan. » That was the reason they couldn’t send these tankers to Delhi to carry Air Liquide and Linde’s oxygen, said INOX, which is responsible for shipping some of the oxygen supplies from other companies to Delhi.
The government of Rajasthan replied that they lacked tankers and that they were therefore forced to take such measures, the center later told the court. The Union’s interior minister has spoken to the Secretary General of Rajasthan and asked for the tankers to be released, the center said.
Not only production, but also oxygen transport has become a major challenge, as it has been across the country since the beginning of April new cases of Covid have increased.
With no drugs available for the coronavirus, critical Covid patients can only breathe if pure oxygen is administered under high pressure. In the past few weeks, hospitals have buckled under pressure as beds became scarce and patients in ambulances and wheelchairs stood at the door.
The center has criticized the Delhi government for not organizing enough oxygen tankers. « The people are arranging tankers. Let the Delhi government appoint a node officer so that the people can come up to him with tankers. Many states are doing this, » the center told the court today.
