Genesis has released thumbnails of the upcoming G70 Shooting Brake. It’s gorgeous, with the same fluid design language as the redesigned G70 and stunning proportions with a long roof. There are only two problems: there is actually no shooting brake and it is not going to come to the US.
First, the term « shooting brake » typically refers to a two-door coupe car. Examples are the Volvo P18000ES and, more recently, the Ferrari GTC4Lusso. But Genesis uses it here to describe a more traditional four-door car, albeit with a dramatic roofline. Semantics aside, the G70 Shooting Brake has the dramatic silhouette of the best cars. Maybe G70 SportCross would have been a better name.
This includes a revised version of the G70 that we already know and love. That means this gorgeous car is likely to have the responsive driving dynamics we expect from the Genesis compact sedan. It also benefits from the significant interior improvements announced for the 2022 model year, making the G70 a more serious competitor to the established Germans.
And it will need your help in bringing the fight to the home front. Genesis recently announced its expansion into the European market. The G70 Shooting Brake – the brand’s first car – is an important part of this strategy so that Genesis can offer the compact car that is still popular in Europe. If the company’s goal is to compete in design, it’s already off to a good start. With taillights overflowing to the side and a deeper, meaner grille, the G70 Shooting Brake takes the already great G70 design from Genesis and does it better. It’s a shame it doesn’t come to the USA.
