It’s the worst-kept secret that Meghan McCain wasn’t particularly popular with the ladies on « The View ». But sources tell Page Six that it became so unbearable that even “cool” Whoopi Goldberg couldn’t take it anymore.
“Everyone was at their wits end – even Whoopi, and she’s the coolest of them all. Whoopi will never advocate getting anyone fired. It’s not about that, but she was very clear that she no longer wanted to work with Meghan, « a source told Page Six.
The source quipped that part-time conservative co-host Ana Navarro « probably drank so many goddamn margaritas » to celebrate McCain’s announcement last week that she would be leaving the show at the end of the month.
Sources told Page Six that Goldberg, Navarro, and Joy Behar all said they no longer wanted to work with McCain. A source said, “It happened as soon as [the new ABC News president] Kim [Godwin] walked in. It was right after Joy and Meghan’s huge [on-air] explosion [in May] that the network called an emergency meeting. They told the new management, ‘We don’t want to work with her anymore.’ «
The source added: » Whoopi knew she didn’t want to work with her either. There were so many well-documented issues and [Meghan] didn’t make a good impression on the new management, ”the source said.
Several sources and insiders told us that the old regime at ABC always had McCain’s back. When McCain and Sunny Hostin did not get along, sources told us that former brass people were referred to Hostin: « ‘Make up with Meghan or get away ». «
» Meghan hated Sunny and did not trust her. She thought she was going to leak stories about her and it was a dire situation. [ABC Brass] Sunny was basically saying, ‘Don’t make us choose between you and Meghan because we won’t choose you.’ And they have had a fake friendship since then, « the first source said.
A third source confirmed the duo’s difficult phase, but said that they eventually developed a real friendship and admiration for one another. “You were in a bad place once. They speak every day now and are there for each other, ”they said.
Meanwhile, sources told us that McCain has been unhappy lately and that she is now ready to finally move on.
“It was a difficult decision for them and they got what they wanted. Meghan has wanted to leave for a long time. She’s fed up with fighting this fight, « said another insider.
The ladies pre-taped the Friday show after McCain made the announcement. They’re on hiatus this week and will return with live shows on July 12th.
