Tobias Menzies, who plays Prince Phillip in The Crown, has won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series along with Gillian Anderson, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher.
The Crown was widely expected to win its first best drama series, Emmy, towards the end of the night, as well as trophies for the actors who played Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman), Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and a young Princess Diana (new signing Emma Corrin).
A win in the best drama series for The Crown would be a milestone for Netflix, while Apple TV would enter the big league of streaming with a comedy series win for Ted Lasso.
It is expected that the lavish royal series The Crown rules at the Emmy Awards of television’s second pandemic-era, on what may be a big night for British talent.
