Three-time Olympian Anaso Jobodwana was selected as the flag bearer of Team SA for the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo on Sunday.
« I’m proud that I can do this, » said 29-year-old Jobodwana, who was a 200m finalist in London in 2012 and a 200m bronze medalist at the 2015 World Championships.
“This is my third Olympiad and it feels special to me, a great Olympiad given all the circumstances that we have last year. ”
Jobodwana, the world champion of the student games over 100 m and 200 m in 2013, suffered an injury at the end of 2015 that probably cost him a medal in Rio 2016, and has been ever since he is no longer able to rediscover his world best.
Team SA finished the games with three medals and took 52nd place in the medal table and third place among the African nations behind Kenya and Uganda.
