CM – The Warriors’ best draft picks, Kuminga and Moody, are available to Thunder – but probably not at the same time

SAN FRANCISCO – The future arrived at the Chase Center on Saturday night, although Warriors trainer Steve Kerr is more inclined to put his first two draft picks in the picture rather than throwing them off the high jump and swimming them to ask.

Forward Jonathan Kuminga, number 7 in the overall selection of the NBA draft, was active and was able to play against the Oklahoma City Thunder (1-4). Kuminga has been out with a patellar tendon strain since preseason and has yet to make his NBA debut. Moses Moody, the number 14 pick, was brought back from the G League in Santa Cruz and is also ready for action.

Both are 19 years old, which begs the question of whether Kerr would have any concerns about playing both at the same time and whether he has ever played against two such young players before.

The Warriors are without security guard Damion Lee, who sustained a bruised shoulder in the Warriors’ loss to Memphis. Striker Juan Toscano-Anderson, whose status has been in doubt with an ankle injury, is available for the Thunder. Guardian Chris Chiozza was active instead of Lee.

« We’re going to miss his shooting, his playmaking, his intelligence, » Kerr said of Lee. “My feeling is that those minutes will be filled by a combination, more minutes for Jordan (Poole), maybe Chris Chiozza will get some time and I think it will also open the door for Moses to play. We will see. »

Both Kuminga, a 6-foot-7 striker, and Moody, a 6-5 wing, are spoon-fed for the time being.

« He’s just a young guy and hasn’t played in about three weeks so he still has a way to go, but he’s really, really talented, » said Kerr. “He treated himself wonderfully, he works hard. His time will come, but everyone just has to be patient, including him – especially him – and it will work.  »

Moody has 17 points, four assists and three steals in the G League, in which he was 3-on-7 in three-point shots. The Santa Cruz Warriors fell 107-96 against the Mexico City Capitanes.

« Moses played well, but the team was blown out, was killed on the glass, » said Kerr. “A tough night. I haven’t had a chance to see the game yet, I’ll see it in the next few days when we’re free.  »

Stephen Curry didn’t score late in the fourth quarter or extension of the Warriors’ loss to the Grizzlies, or in two previous games.

« If there’s one thing I’m not worried about, it’s Steph Curry’s fourth quarter goal, » said Kerr. “That seems to be the greatest coincidence of all time. That’s how I look at it. Not too worried. I bet he’ll score in fourth place tonight.  »

James Wiseman, the 2.70-meter-tall center in its second year, which together with Kuminga and Moody represents the future of the Warriors, is steadily improving after meniscus surgery.

« James works really hard every day, » said Kerr. “He sprints, does a lot of editing and basketball. He hasn’t participated in a three-on-three or any type of scrimmage so he’s still far from ready to play but he’s really making headway and the process has been really solid and everyone is really happy with his progress.
