The nation is still processing the tragedy of the Waukesha, Wisconsin Christmas Parade that occurred on Sunday evening, November 21st. Dozens of spectators, including children, were killed and over 20 people injured when a red SUV plowed into the crowd without warning.

Police chief Dan Thomspon said the vehicle drove west through the barricades on Main Street at 4:39 p.m. local time . Law enforcement agencies are unable to determine the total number of lives lost as the next of kin reports are still being processed. The incident now brings back memories of an older but similar tragedy in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

In 2015, a car crashed into the crowd watching the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade. The incident, which occurred in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on October 24th, killed four people and injured more than 40 people.

According to reports, the crash occurred at 10:31 a.m. Central Time during the annual Sea of Oklahoma State University Orange Homecoming Parade that morning in preparation for the Oklahoma State Cowboys football game against the Kansas Jayhawks later that day.

After the parade crosses Hall of Fame Avenue and Main Street on the university campus (0.40 miles east of Boone Pickens Stadium), 25-year-old Adacia Avery Chambers – a native of Oologah and a resident of Stillwater – drove her gray 2014 Hyundai Elantra south on the Main at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour into multiple barriers used to block commuter traffic and then ridden on an unmanned Stillwater Police Department motorcycle. Chambers’ car then sped into about 50 parade viewers before stopping as its two front tires slammed the curb on the southwest corner of the intersection. The victims were flown to other hospitals or transported to the Stillwater Regional Medical Center. Immediately after the crash, the then captain of the Stillwater Police Department described the injured as « wandering wounded » while talking about the victims.

The driver, Adacia Chambers, 25, was arrested and detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was not a student at OSU, according to Gary Shutt, the university’s then director of communications. Among those who lost their lives that day was Nash Lucas, two years old, a child from Stillwater. Three other people died on the scene itself, namely 23-year-old Nikita Prabhaker Nakal, a native Mumbai who was a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond; and husband and wife Marvin Lyle and Bonnie Jean Stone, both 65 years old and residing in Stillwater. Among the injured were nine children aged between 1 and 13. Chambers was arrested at the scene of the accident by officers from the Stillwater Police Department who were at the scene of the accident on suspicion of being drunk and behind the wheel she was later assigned to the Payne County Jail Detox Unit. Blood tests to measure the level of alcohol or drugs in her body – a requirement that police must perform in « serious » fatal vehicle accidents under Oklahoma law – showed that she had a blood alcohol level of only 0.01 / p> Adacia Avery Chambers later pleaded not guilty to four cases of second degree murder and 39 cases of assault and assault with intent to kill on January 10, 2017.
