Transperth employees worked through the night to fix a technical fault on the Joondalup railway line that caused chaos in commuter traffic on Thursday afternoon.
The connections between Whitford and Stirling stations were closed shortly before noon when a crack was discovered in the tracks.
Rail replacement buses were needed to move thousands of commuters in the afternoon while technicians worked to repair the line.
At 5:30 am, trains were back running between the two Train stations, but Transperth warned passengers to expect minor delays.
