CM – Trump tries to block testimony on the U.S. Capitol Rebellion: report

Former President Donald Trump has ordered four former senior officials not to comply with a Congressional investigation into the January 6 attack on Congress, US media reported Thursday.

Trump has ordered four former senior aides to fail a Congressional investigation into the riots in the U.S. Capitol.

Former President Donald Trump has ordered four former senior aides to investigate a Congressional investigation into the attack on Congress on January 6, US media reported Thursday. Politico and The Washington Post both reported that ex-advisors Mark Meadows, Kash Patel, Dan Scavino and Steve Bannon were instructed not by Trump supporters Cooperate in the House of Representatives’ formal investigation into what critics have labeled an open insurrection.

The reports came hours after the publication of a damning Senate report describing Trump’s efforts to undermine the Justice Department and his electoral defeat to repent against Joe Biden in November.

Trump’s lawyers argued in a letter to the four that s his communications and records are protected from disclosure by Executive and Attorney-Client Privileges.

The Special Committee to Investigate the 6th Attack to stop a joint session to confirm Biden as president.

At the time, Meadows was Chief of Staff of the White House; Scavino handled social media for Trump; Bannon was a former political strategist who remained active in Republican operations; and Patel was a national security advisor to the White House, whom Trump appointed to a senior position at the Pentagon after his election defeat.

The four were ordered by the January 6th committee to hand over documents and appear for interviews with investigators next week .

Legal experts have expressed doubts that Trump can claim executive privileges on his actions in his final weeks in office to prevent his staff from speaking.

But the issue hasn’t been tested much in courts and the White House has announced that it would to some extent forego the privileges of Trump’s records to assist in the investigation.

And Trump’s defiance could force the committee into legal battles that could drag on the investigation.

« The former president is still trying to block subpoenas, » committee member Adam Schiff said in a tweeted statement.
