NEW YORK (AP) – Minnesota Twins starter John Gant only lasted 12 throws against the New York Yankees on Monday and left after straining his lower abdomen.
Gant, a 29- year old right-hander, DJ LeMahieu and Brett Gardner resigned from the first ground-outs and Aaron Judge walked four pitches.
Manager Rocco Baldelli and head of sport Michael Salazar went to the hill, spoke briefly with the thrower and Gant became removed.
Luke Farrell, a son of former Boston Red Sox executive John Farrell, was relieved and forced Giancarlo Stanton into a force-out.
Minnesota led in the first run by Jorge Polanco and Miguel Sanó beat rookie Luis Gil 4-0 after two runs.
