Taylor Rogers may not have been named an All-Star when the roster was announced earlier this month, but the Twins’ reliever still got the well-deserved honor.
Rogers was named as a replacement on Monday and received the All-Star Nick for the first time in his career.
The game will be played in his hometown on Tuesday evening. Rogers, a native of Colorado, lives just outside of Denver, where the game takes place at Coors Field.
In a video posted by the twins on Twitter, Rogers beamed across the stadium.
Rogers, who has been the Twins’ most consistent reliever in years, has an average of 3.35 earned runs with eight saves, while hitting 54 batter in 37 2/3 innings this year. His ERA was at 2:45 a.m. before his last outing where he served a Grand Slam.
« By and large, Taylor Rogers has done an amazing, brilliant job in every role we ask of him, » Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said earlier this month as he touted the Savior’s All-Star credentials . « He just goes out there and takes people out all the time, year after year. »
Rogers joins Nelson Cruz as two representatives of the twins in the All-Star game. Cruz will take part in the seventh all-star game of his career.
