Nigeria announced on Friday that it would cease Twitter operations in the country, saying the platform would be used for activities « capable of undermining Nigeria’s business existence ».

The Ministry of Information said in a Statement that two days after the social media giant deleted a comment on President Muhammadu Buhari’s official account for violating his rules, « (Twitter) suspended indefinitely ».

Twitter was still working in Nigeria shortly after Friday’s statement. When asked about the decision, the ministry’s special assistant, Segun Adeyemi, told AFP: « I can’t answer the technical details … operations will be suspended indefinitely. »
