Australasia’s most successful corporate robber of the 1980s has returned his knighthood after pleading guilty to possessing child abuse material.
New Zealand-born Ron Brierley, 83, whom Sydney police alleged was him own 53,000 images and 500 videos.
Brierley was knighted by New Zealand in 1988 for his contribution to the economy and the community.
He was arrested and charged in December 2019 after police reported a reference to child abuse material in discovered his carry-on baggage when he was stopped at Sydney Airport while preparing for a flight to Fiji.
