CM – Ubisoft is finally redesigning « Splinter Cell »

And they are looking for new talent for the development team.

Eight years after releasing the last installment in the franchise and 19 years after releasing the very first game in the series, Ubisoft has finally announced that the popular Splinter Cell franchise is getting a remake.

The company announces the news on its website, saying that the upcoming remake will be led by the Ubisoft Toronto team, which is currently looking for new talent to join the project. With nearly a decade of technological advances to play with, the title will now access the developer’s own Snowdrop engine, the same technology behind both the upcoming Ubisoft Star Wars game and the long-awaited Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora In an interview with the company’s creative director, Chris Auty, producer Matt West, and technical producer Peter Handrinos, the three of them shed light on what fans can expect from the remake. « For me, a remake takes what you would do in a remaster and takes it a little further, » West began. “While we are still in the very early stages of development, we are trying to ensure that the spirit of the early games remains intact in all the ways that gave the early Splinter Cell its identity. While we are building it from scratch, we will be updating it visually as well as some of the design elements to suit player comfort and expectations and we will keep it linear like the original games. Don’t make it the open world.  »

« Splinter Cell was a breakthrough in stealth – as Matt mentioned, it was ‘redefining stealth’ with a huge focus on getting the core gameplay right and achieving an ideal: being a ghost “Added Auty. “It is important for us to maintain a sense of mastery by helping players observe situations, make plans, use their gadgets and creatively outsmart the opponent to overcome the challenges they face. Ideally, they’ll come out on the other side without anyone even realizing you were there. That is the essence of Splinter Cell.  »

There is currently no release date for the Splinter Cell remake, but fans of the franchise can read the full interview on the Ubisoft website.
