CM – US duo boosts Beijing 2022 hopes with good performances in the Nebelhorn Trophy

The United States enjoyed a beautiful day at the Nebelhorn Trophy – the final figure skating qualifier for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing – with Vincent Zhou and Alysa Liu in the short program.

Zhou performed the best exercise in the men’s and scored 97.35 points from the judges at the event in Oberstdorf, Germany.

Adam Siao Him Fa from France came second with 89.23 ahead of Australian Brendan Kerry, who scored 85.89.

The Italian Gabriele Frangipani and Mark Kondratiuk from Russia completed the top 5 with 83.11 and 781.48 points respectively.

Liu impressed the women and led the overall ranking with 70.86 after the first of two exercises.

Alexia Paganini from Switzerland took second place with 65.65, while Viktoriia Safonova from Belarus got 62.02 and finished third.

Kailani Craine from Australia came fourth with 61.62 and the Ukrainian Anastasiia Shabatova finished fifth with 61.49.

In the couples short program, Karina Safina and Luka Berulava from Georgia ousted the Germans Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nolan Seegert for the top spot.

Safina and Berulava scored 66.46 points, while Hase and Seegert had to be content with second place with 66.26.

The competition will continue tomorrow with the freestyle disciplines for men and couples.

A total of 20 quota places are available, seven of them for men and six for the women, three in pair skating and four in ice dancing.
