The epicenter of the earthquake that occurred at 12:18 pm was about 2 kilometers north of Piedmont. At 12:22 p.m., the city of Berkeley sent out a tweet reminding residents to prepare for earthquakes.
« Small earthquakes are a reminder to prepare, » the tweet said. « Before you go back to sleep, put a flashlight and a pair of sneakers under the bed. »
