Four games in women’s singles will take place today at the US Open and after Dan Weston picked up another winner on Sunday evening, he gives a preview of the selection …
« The Pole has won a higher percentage of serve and return points on hard courts this season – I have Swiatek as a stronger favorite than the market. »
Leylah Fernandez covered that Game handicap against Angelique Kerber and shocked the German in a decisive sentence to move into the quarter-finals. There she meets Elina Svitolina, who defeated Simona Halep.
There were also wins for Barbora Krejcikova and Aryna Sabalenka, shortening Sabalenka to 4.03 / 1 as the all-time favorite, with Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Barbora Krejcikova between 8.07 / 1 and 9.08 / 1 as second division of the market favorites.
Belinda Bencic 2.0621 / 20 against Iga Swiatek 1.9310 / 11: I already mentioned in this tournament that I think Bencic is overrated by the market and this is the case again in my opinion against Swiatek, who has far more chances than her opponent. Additionally, the Pole has gained a higher percentage of serve and return points on hard courts this season – I have Swiatek as a stronger favorite than the market, and while it’s not very big, it’s my pick for today.
Shelby Rogers 2,447 / 5 vs. Emma Raducanu 1,684 / 6: Raducanu has been absolutely fantastic in this tournament so far and demolished Sara Sorribes Tormo in the third round. However, she should find a tough opponent in Rogers who is very competent and has played pretty solidly even for the past 12 months.
Raducanu is the favorite, and I agree it should be, but most interestingly, Rogers is 75,074 / 1 on the overall standings while Raducanu is 16,015 / 1, which is strange given the match prices . I don’t recommend it myself because I think the match prizes are fine, but anyone who wants to support Rogers might want to do it in stark contrast to the match prizes here.
Karolina Pliskova 1.645 / 8 v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 2.506 / 4: Pliskova is a similar price to Raducanu, and it looks like it to me too. Czech Pliskova has won six of her eight games so far, while Pavlyuchenkova has won the last two. Level events, including at Wimbledon.
Pavlyuchenkova hasn’t really been tested yet, but was a favorite under 1.3030 / 100 in all three games to reach this stage. Let’s see what she can do against a considerable increase in the opponent’s position.
Maria Sakkari 1.674 / 6 – Bianca Andreescu 2.447 / 5: There is another marginal favorite here, and that is Sakkari with the market advantage over Andreescu, the probably has more potential, but hasn’t really shown consistently since her long-term injury.
Before the injury, Andreescu had incredible hard court data for a player her age and that level would make her a big pre-game favorite here, but her data just doesn’t show that much evidence she’s there right now. This game is likely to start quite late for European viewers, but it might be worth checking out.
