Two soldiers have died after being trapped in their vehicle that had crashed in a remote part of North Queensland.

Police were found on Monday at around 1:45 p.m. at the scene of a single vehicle on Dotswood Road in Dotswood near the Charters Towers.

Officials and firefighters found the soldiers unconscious and trapped in the vehicle and later died on the scene.

Defense Secretary Peter Dutton told the federal parliament that around the Lavarack barracks in Townsville would have significant manpower and assets.

« It is a very dangerous job that our troops are involved in, even during training drills and equipment moving on our national highways, » said Dutton.

« That is very sad news for our country and our condolences and thoughts go with your friends and family. «
