Southampton’s defender Jannik Vestergaard will move to the Premier League club Leicester City subject to medical intervention, confirmed coach Ralph Hasenhüttl.
British media reported that for the 29th Danish international, who joined Southampton three years ago from Borussia Mönchengladbach, a deal worth 15 million pounds (20.72 million US dollars) was agreed.
Vestergaard played in all six of Denmark’s games at the European Championship July, when they reached the semi-finals, where they lost 2-1 to England at Wembley Stadium.
« He’s doing the medical check, and when that’s done, the deal is closed, » said Hasenhüttl on Thursday a press conference.
« He will go to Leicester, then it is up to us to replace him and we will in the future.
» We have increased the squad of future players at this club. There is still one position to be filled because we lost Jannik. «
Hasenhüttl has strengthened Southampton’s forward line after last season’s top scorer Danny Ings joined Aston Villa earlier this month and Adam Armstrong from Blackburn Rovers and Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea for a season.
Southampton, who finished 15th last season, is kicking off its 2021-22 Premier League season with a trip to Everton on Saturday.
