CM – Virginia leaders outline priorities for federal aid

RICHMOND, Virginia (AP) – The combination of robust government revenue and unprecedented federal aid provides Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and Democratic lawmakers with an opportunity to revitalize the state’s economy from the devastation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Northam and the Democratic leadership on Wednesday set priorities for the state’s share of $ 7.2 billion in federal funds that will flow to Virginia from the American Rescue Plan Act signed by President Joe Biden in March.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the priorities are: strengthening underfunded public health systems, helping small businesses and repairing public school buildings.
