BLACKSBURG, Virginia (AP) – Virginia Tech officials apologized for a number of issues with the school’s opening soccer game last week, including long lines entering the stadium and students sitting in the wrong seats.
Fans had to endure long lines to get to Lane Stadium for the North Carolina game last Friday, the Roanoke Times reported. The game marked the first time Virginia Tech needed electronic tickets instead of paper tickets, and with the stadium’s wireless signal not strong, some people struggled to access their tickets on their phones.
When some fans finally entered , they found students in seats reserved for general access. Concession booth visitors found that Virginia Tech had switched to cashless purchases, but staffing issues added to the long wait times. Some food stalls didn’t have hot food or the food wasn’t ready.
In statements released Tuesday and Wednesday, Virginia Tech said it will add drink-only concession stands to relieve long lines to eat, reduce the number of menu items, tell students exactly where to sit, and encourage fans to download their tickets to their phones before arriving at the stadium.
