Queensland will impose new quarantine measures on Victorians after four cases of COVID-19 are discovered in the southern state.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced that anyone arriving in Queensland from 1 a.m. on Wednesday and visiting an identified exposure site in Victoria will be forced into hotel quarantine for 14 days.
Anyone who has been to any of the exposure sites and is already in Queensland must complete the Queensland Health online contact tracing form, get tested immediately, and quarantine at your home or accommodation.
In the meantime, community vaccination centers will be set up across Queensland starting in July, eligible for people aged 40 to 49 after the country’s Pfizer inventory has been replenished.
Starting in late July, 14 new community hubs will open to vaccinate frontline health, police, and emergency medical services as well as general Queenslanders ages 40 to 49.
Health Secretary Yvette D’Ath encouraged Queenslanders ages 40 to 49 to go online and register their interest while the appointment booking system was set up.
Ms. D’Ath said the online credentials checker might say you are not eligible, but she encouraged people to register their interest « so we can contact you when a community hub opens near you ».
She said the state plans to open mass vaccination centers from October as large quantities are made available to Pfizer.
The 14 community hubs will deliver the Pfizer vaccine to the southeast, central and far north of Queensland.
Ms. Palaszczuk received her flu shot on Monday and announced that she would speak to her family doctor about getting the Covid-19 sting in two weeks.
She said the vaccination rollout « will get faster as more and more supplies become available ».
Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young also announced that she would be receiving the Astra Zeneca covid19 vaccine in two weeks’ time.
Her comment corrects information released by Queensland Health on Friday that Dr. Young would get the Pfizer dose because of her aptitude as a frontline health worker.
« I consider myself a member of the general community, so I will take this general advice, » she said.
« I’m over 50 years old and I will have a family doctor who will vaccinate me.
« I strongly recommend that every single person in Queensland, if you are 50 years of age or older, speak to your GP about what is right for you. »
« Anyone in Queensland who has been in Melbourne for the past 14 days today, especially the northern suburbs, and has symptoms at all, no matter how mild, must report immediately and be tested and isolated until they get a negative result, » said Dr. Young.
Queensland has registered three new cases of Covid in the past 24 hours – all acquired overseas and discovered in hotel quarantine.
