CM – Warriors defeated Kings behind the huge fourth quarter of Steph Curry, strong performance on the bench

SAN FRANCISCO – With Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins on the league’s COVID logs and unable to play, the Warriors were looking for someone to help Steph Curry carry Monday’s offensive against the Sacramento Kings.

The Warriors had six players scoring double-digit points, the Golden State bank combined for 47 points, and Draymond Green had his first triple-double of the season to support Curry, who scored 30 points – 15 in the fourth quarter – in Golden 113-98 victory of the state.

Those many Golden State hands also stole 12 steals in the game. It was their 12th 10-plus steal game of the season for the NBA’s top-ranked defense.

Damion Lee – usually a banker – started in Poole’s place, scoring 18 points on 7-of-8 to further bolster the Warriors’ offensive .

Gary Payton II and Otto Porter were each 12 points away from the bank. Andre Iguodala added 10.

The Warriors had a 15-point lead in the first half and a 12-point lead at halftime, but saw that advantage crumble in the third quarter when Sacramento was in the frame and Curry with less than two minutes left. two points ahead went on the bench.

Curry sat for the last three minutes of the third. The Warriors survived, and the long hiatus into the quarter break allowed Curry to begin the fourth and possibly rekindle his large frame. The Warriors had a 10-0 run in the fourth which proved the difference in the competition.

The Kings, at the back of a two-city clash, had to do without De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley and 2021 Davion Mitchell, the first-round pick, as well as three other games and their interim coach Alvin Gentry. They were led by Tyrese Haliburton in their sophomore year – 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting, 11 assists – and Buddy Hield, who had 18 points in the second half.

Green registered his triple-double in the first three quarters of the game, scoring 12 points, collecting 10 rebounds and distributing 10 assists in his first 28 minutes on Monday. He finished with 16 points. The Warriors are now 30-1 in the regular season when Green has a triple-double.

Jonathan Kuminga started his second game in a row on Monday without Wiggins. But the rookie, and # 7 overall, only played for six minutes before being disfellowshipped with a tight lower back.

Kuminga scored two points, had a theft and was a plus-seven alongside Green and Curry.
