Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has so far completely refused to take any action that could potentially slow the spread of the disease, and has even threatened to withhold payment from school administrators who want to enforce masking requirements for students and teachers. </ Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who similarly prevented school districts from enforcing mask or vaccination requirements, is now urging hospitals to postpone all elective surgeries while he searches for health workers outside of the state that his state supports can help cope with the deadly pandemic.
