A group of golfers in Australia were shocked when they were joined by a giant crab for a round – and one of their clubs broke in half. Hair-raising footage shot on Christmas Island shows the giant predator crab cutting effortlessly through the golf club. The video was shared on Reddit that Sunday, from where it spread like wildfire online.
According to news.com.au, Christmas Island local Paul Buhner and friends came across the giant crab and in October 2020 were surprised it made the rounds on social media in January 2022. He said it spread online after his son shared the video with a friend.
One of the videos featured the crab clutching the end of a golf club. A man named AI tries to remove him from the club with little success as the predatory crab continues to hold a lethal grip on it.
In a second clip, the predatory crab (aka coconut crab) was seen using the bat her pincers broke in half.
The video was shared on YouTube by Kerry Buhner, who wrote: « Golf can be dangerous on Christmas Island. My husband Paul Buhner has this amazing sight at Friday Men’s Golf on Christmas Island this year Filmed in 2020. «

The coconut crab (also known as the predator crab or palm thief) is the largest terrestrial arthropod in the world, and can grow up to 3 feet and 3 inches wide. It can weigh more than 4 kilograms and reach 50 years of age. These extraordinary climbers are colloquially called predatory crabs because they carry away any foreign objects they encounter, according to Parks Australia. These crabs especially like shiny objects.
