CM – Who will replace Draymond Green when Andrew Wiggins returns to the Warriors lineup?

After missing each of the Warriors’ last four games, striker Andrew Wiggins is back in the team’s starting line-up ahead of Golden State’s game with the Denver Nuggets at the Chase Center on Tuesday.

Wiggins was one of a contingent of Warriors who did not travel to Toronto for a match with the Raptors on December 18, as he instead flew direct from Boston to San Francisco towards the end of the team’s final road trip. On December 19, Wiggins tested positive for Covid-19 and entered health and safety logs, but was allowed to return to training on Monday after the NBA released updated guidelines for vaccinated, asymptomatic players.

With Wiggins back in the team, the Warriors will also have Stephen Curry, Gary Payton II, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Kevon Looney in the starting line-up on Tuesday against Denver.

Toscano-Anderson replaces Draymond Green, who will miss his first game since entering health and safety logs on Sunday after the Warriors’ 116-107 win over the Suns in Phoenix on Christmas Day. In 32 games this season Toscano-Anderson has averaged 4.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 16.5 minutes per game.

During his pre-game press conference, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr noted that rookie Jonathan Kuminga is expected to play a lot on Tuesday, suggesting that he and Toscano-Anderson will be partially responsible for replacing Green’s production and possibly Defend Nuggets star Nikola Jokić.

« You’re probably not frustrating (Jokić), he’s one of those people trying to limit the damage to come, » said Kerr. “The biggest thing is that you can’t give up on simple things. He is so talented that he will tear you apart and give them lots of points.  »

Kerr said Monday Green had « very mild symptoms » and was in a good mood despite testing positive for Covid-19.

Aside from Green, guards Jordan Poole, Damion Lee, and Moses Moody all stay in health and safety logs. Poole has been out since December 17 but was quarantined in Boston after a positive test and did not return to the Bay Area until late Monday.

Kerr declined to give a target date for Poole’s expected return, but it is possible that he will be back on the line-up once the team’s next game against the Nuggets takes place in Denver on Thursday.

Despite missing several key players, the Warriors will have Andre Iguodala at their disposal on Tuesday after the seasoned wing missed the last two games with a knee injury. Knee problems have limited Iguodala to just four games in just four games since Nov. 16, when the Warriors defeated Nets 117-99.

Four members of Kerr’s coaching staff also remain on health and safety logs as Mike Brown, Chris DeMarco, Leandro Barbosa and Dejan Milojevic will be unavailable for Tuesday’s game.
