Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported on March 15 that Boston started trading with Thompson before the 25th last season did not take place, but the Celtics left him with this deal.

Last season, the 30-year-old played for a team other than the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time, which made him No. . 4 had selected in the overall ranking. While never the biggest star on teams with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love, he was a solid inner presence and double threat every time he spoke.

Thompson scored in 2018- 19 and 2019-20 averaged a double-double, while averaging 9.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in his nine seasons with the Cavaliers. He also helped them win the 2016 Valued Secondary Contributor title.

The Texan product averaged 7.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in its first season at Boston.

The native Canadian is a playoff tested veteran who helps control the glass while providing central defense and goals on the blocks. If Thompson plays this role effectively, he will play a major role in Atlanta’s rotation as it chases a deep playoff run similar to the one he had in Cleveland in 2016.
