CM – Workers urge Harvey Norman to support the wage increase

About 100 people protested outside Harvey Norman in Hobart to support ACTU's submission for a raise, reports Sam Wainwright.

Around 28 people joined a protest outside Harvey Norman on May 28 to support the Australian Union Council’s proposal to increase the workforce by 3.5% through the annual wage review.

The company billionaire retailer Gerry Harvey has proposed postponing any increase in the country’s lowest paid workers by six months.

Despite increasing profits 116% during the six months following the COVID-19 shutdown, Harvey Norman has insisted on keeping the entire $ 22 million JobKeeper allowance that he was paid. </ Australian Union Council Secretary Sally McManus said May 28th that Harvey Norman had doubled his profits from the global pandemic, "benefited from a delay in the last wage increase and then refused to repay JobKeeper".
