CM – WTA round-up: Daria Kasatkina defeats Sofia Kenin in Sydney

The Russian Daria Kasatkina saved all seven of her breakpoints on Monday, while at the Sydney Tennis Classic in Australia she recorded a 6-4, 6-0 first-round fall for the eight seeded American Sofia Kenin.

It only took Kasatkina 63 minutes to round up the annoyance of Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion. Kenin only got eight points in the second set.

Among other things, the fifth placed Spaniard Paula Badosa continued her ascent by defeating the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 7: 6 (1), 6: 1. No. 4 Anett Kontaveit from Estonia defeated the Chinese Shuai Zhang 6-3, 6-3 and No. 7 Ons Jabeur from Tunisia won 6-1, 6-3 against the Australian Astra Sharma.

The American Madison Keys collected 14 aces while recording a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ukraine’s runner-up Elina Svitolina in Adelaide.

Keys won 28 of 33 first serve points (84.8 percent) while Svitolina had seven double faults and only three aces. It is the second event in a row that Svitolina lost in the first round while preparing for the upcoming Australian Open.

Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic, who was sixth, defeated the Swiss Viktorija Golubic with 5-7, 6- 4, 6-3. The American Alison Riske won 6: 4, 6: 4 against Magda Linette from Poland, while the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk defeated the American Shelby Rogers 6: 3, 6: 4.
