Rickie Fowler has one last chance this week to continue his season at the Wyndham Championship. And he’s not the only big name on the PGA Tour hoping to land on the right side of the golf playoff standings.

The top 125 FedEx Cup players make up the tour’s postseason. For this reason, all but one of the places 104 to 151 will tee off at the Sedgefield Country Club from Thursday.

Also the Major Champions Adam Scott (No. 121), Justin Rose (No. 138) and Francesco Molinari (No. 140) play for staying or go hunting for the FedEx Cup weeks like Fowler at # 130 for the next few days.

« Yeah, it’s pretty easy, » said Fowler on Wednesday. « Stand against the wall, do a few birdies more than me bogeys, and tee off next week, and if not, you don’t. Yeah, it’s just kind of up to me. ”

The last of Fowler’s five wins came in 2019 and his only top 10 result that season was a tie for eighth place at the PGA Championship on Kiawah Island in May. Fowler likened it to kick-starting a dirt bike that spins for a while and then turns off.

« There have been a lot of good things in the last four, five, six months, more and more, a little more, » he said. « It was a shame I kicked for so long, but we’re still kicking here. »

Fowler has to finish 21st or better this week or miss the playoffs for the first time since turning full-time pro in 2010. He’s not sure what to do with the break.

« Hopefully it’s better than the last year or two and we don’t have to worry, » he said.

The former Wyndham -Winner and North Carolina native Webb Simpson is a 12-1 favorite to win another tournament title and his first this season. Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is 14-1, while Louis Oosthuizen is 18-1 according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

While Fowler has to work to advance, Scott and Matt Kuchar (# 124) are trying their places in the 125-man – Hold playoffs.

« It would be good to have my best week of the year, I have to say, » said Scott.

Olympic runner-up Rory Sabbatini and bronze medalist CT Pan are in the field. Sabbatini, 141st in the playoff rankings, needs a top six finish to play against the Northern Trust next week. As a representative of Slovakia, Sabbatini scored a 10-under 61 in the final round of the Olympic tournament and finished second against the American Xander Schauffele.

Louis Oosthuizen is not worried about his playoff spot and is eighth in the FedEx Cup. Should he win or finish second at Wyndham, South African would overtake Collin Morikawa for first place and win a $ 2 million bonus.

Will Zalatoris also needs a win to keep his season going. Zalatoris is playing on a sponsorship waiver as a special temporary member of the PGA Tour. Although he would have had enough FedEx points to qualify as 26th, he won’t qualify for the playoffs unless the 24-year-old Masters runner-up takes that championship home.
