CM – Yehualaw sets half marathon world record

Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw broke the women’s half marathon world record in Northern Ireland by 19 seconds.

Yehualaw drove an hour, three minutes and 43 seconds in the half marathon on the Antrim Coast in Larne, to the mark of 1 : 04.02 hours recorded by Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich in Istanbul in April.

« I’ve already tried to break the world record twice, but it didn’t happen, but I’m so happy that it did happened today in Larne. «

Supported by two pacemakers, Yehualaw destroyed the competition when she prevailed over the Kenyan Vane Nyaboke (1: 09.44) and the British Rose Harvey (1: 10.28).

In the men’s race, there was a double victory for the Ethiopians in an exciting final, with Jemal Yimer (1: 00.29) ahead of Tesfahun Akalnew (1: 00.30) and the Kenyan Shadrack Kimining (1: 00.31) stood at the top.
